Cheek fillers are dermal fillers injected into the skin to fill out wrinkles and creases. They enhance the roundness and fullness of the cheeks, helping to achieve the appearance of shapely cheekbones.
The main ingredients in cheek fillers are either calcium hydroxylapatite or hyaluronic acid. Calcium hydroxylapatite promotes the production of natural collagen, which forms fibers to provide structure. Hyaluronic acid is a lubricant produced by the body, which helps to keep tissues plump and hydrated.
The effect of cheek fillers is temporary, and therefore repeat visits are needed to revitalize the appearance of fuller cheeks once the treatment wears off. The use of fillers doesn’t involve any invasive surgery.

Cheek fillers are a treatment for a loss or lack of volume in the cheeks.
Volume loss can occur with aging. If cheeks appear sunken or jowly, then fillers can help bring youthful plumpness to the skin. Some people have naturally thinner-looking cheeks which may benefit from improved contouring using fillers.
Cheek fillers are for those who have sunken cheeks or loose skin around the jaw. If you’re looking for rounder, more shapely cheeks, fillers will help you achieve your desired results.
Before your consultation, you’ll need to answer a few questions about your medical history. It’s important to be open about any medical conditions you may have when answering these questions, as they help your injector determine the best treatment for your specific situation.
Dermal fillers may not be suitable for people with existing medical conditions such as diabetes or blood clotting disorders, which can impact the healing process.
You should inform your injector if you’re taking any medication or if you smoke. Either of these factors can affect blood clotting, which could cause changes to the texture of the face post-treatment.
You should also tell your injector if you have allergies or suffered any allergic reactions to filler treatments in the past.
The cheek filler treatments we use at the Breslow Center are Radiesse and Juvéderm Voluma. Both are high quality fillers that have provided our patients with excellent results.
Radiesse is a thick, calcium-based volumizer which stimulates the body to produce more collagen. This helps to replace lost volume and smooths out deeper lines and wrinkles. Radiesse is both effective and safe.
Juvéderm Voluma is a hyaluronic acid-based filler treatment, formulated to correct age-related volume loss in the cheeks. It provides lift in the mid-face area, helping to create a more youthful appearance. Juvéderm Voluma is also proven to be a safe treatment.
The effects last up to one year using Radiesse and up to two years with the Juvéderm Voluma brand. If you want a permanent solution to enhanced cheek volume, surgical cheek augmentation might be a better option for you.

Melissa has been with The Breslow Center since 2007 and has dedicated her career in Nursing to Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. As Director of Nursing, she assists with all medical aspects of the practice. With over a decade of experience in plastic surgery, including 4 years of assisting the operating room, Melissa is an integral member of our team. Melissa is highly knowledgeable in all aspects of plastic surgery patient care and she enjoys working with patients and directing them through a positive surgical experience as well as the many other services we provide. Melissa is an active member of the International Society of Plastic Surgical Nurses as well as the Society for Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists.
Veronica’s career in the medical field started in 2009. Initially, she began as a certified nursing assistant while obtaining her nursing degree. She then furthered her nursing career as an RN at Hackensack University Medical Center where she had the significant role of bedside nursing for 5 years. While she embraced this role, she knew she always had a passion for plastic surgery and aesthetics. Since 2017, Veronica has chosen to focus her career in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Veronica’s expert care and precision with injectables enables patients to achieve natural yet dramatic results. She brings a wealth of knowledge in facial anatomy and cosmetic injections having worked alongside a board certified plastic surgeon.
She has received all of the necessary certifications in Dermal Fillers and neurotoxins. She is certified in microneedling and is trained in Hair Restoration. Kristen is a Board-Certified Physician Assistant who has dedicated the last 15 years specializing in Cosmetic and Aesthetic medicine. Kristen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Baccalaureate of Science. She then went on to earn her Master of Science degree, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Kristen is a certified injector and specializes in the use of neuromodulators and cosmetic fillers for a total nonsurgical facial rejuvenation.
At the Breslow Center, you will find Kristen assisting Dr. Breslow and Dr. Greany during surgical procedures and at follow up appointments. She will also be performing procedures at the Injxcellence Medical Spa! With her years of clinical experience and compassionate bedside manner, it’s Kristen’s top priority to ensure patient satisfaction by providing beautiful and natural looking results.
When she is not working, Kristen enjoys traveling with her husband and two sweet girls, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Martine Ragone is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with a strong background in both medical and aesthetic care. She brings over a decade of experience as a nurse in high-acuity emergency settings and combines that clinical expertise with a thoughtful, results-driven approach to aesthetics. The appointment takes approximately one hour. There will be a pre-treatment consultation with your injector, where you will discuss your medical history and the results you hope to achieve. Your injector will tell you what to expect and talk you through the after effects, at which point you’ll have the opportunity to ask them any questions you may have.
Not at all. “Chipmunk cheeks” result from using too much filler, over-inflating the cheeks, or injecting into the wrong areas of the face. At the Breslow Center your expert injector will administer just the right amount of treatment to the specific areas needed to achieve your desired look, without risking an overinflated or unnatural appearance.
This depends on a few different factors, including the extent of the problem and your desired appearance, but it can vary from one syringe to several in each side. Your injector will advise you on the amount of cheek filler treatment needed to achieve your desired results.
There is a small sting with each syringe administered. Lidocaine is used as a mild anesthetic, and there may be some bruising afterwards.
You shouldn’t take any blood-thinning medication like Aspirin and need to avoid nutritional supplements, such as various fish oils and multivitamins. Consuming any of these products can make bruising more likely.
Post-treatment you may feel some numbness around the cheeks. Swelling usually occurs for the first one to two days after the appointment. Bruising is also common, although it normally disappears after approximately three days. Applying Arnica Gel to the site can help bruising heal more quickly.
